Tutor Training Programme

Our Mull Music Makers programme is committed to investing in the next generation of music teachers by creating training opportunities.

Our mentoring programme offers people the opportunity to develop their music teaching skills alongside our top class tutor team.

Our trainees gain the opportunity to work alongside our lead tutor, Patsy Reid. Patsy is a highly experienced and dedicated educator who is passionate about sharing her unique violin and fiddle pedagogy with others.

Prospective trainees will be:

  • keen to learn from experienced professionals
  • forever learners - continuously seeking ways to develop and improve
  • good at communicating with the young people, the tutors and fellow trainees
  • open to new ways of doing things and always looking for creative solutions to any challenge that presents itself

We will provide hands on experience of:

  • teaching violin to groups of young people through a broad range of experience levels
  • differentiation - teaching multiple ability levels using Patsy's bespoke, multi-part arrangements
  • kinaesthetic learning -
  • to help embed and memorise parts through rhythm and movement
  • to engage the whole body in the learning process
  • to reinforce holistic coordination and ensemble skills
  • delivering associated skills in note reading, learning by ear, theory and general musicianship
  • delivering a unique community music project in an island setting

How to join our mentoring programme?

We usually recruit trainees in the early Spring to join our mentoring programme. Trainees are invited to join our Summer Week - an annual week of intensive workshops for MMM participants including a tutor concert and cèilidh. Ongoing and bespoke mentoring opportunities are then offered for those wishing to further develop their skills.
Our training and mentoring opportunities are free.
We provide (shared) accommodation for trainees, a travel allowance to get to Mull and a daily subsistence allowance.

Priority is given to applications from Argyll and Bute.
